Keskustelija juttelee. Veistoksen huulet ja silmät liikkuvat ilmeikkäästi sen selostaessa menemään, mutta ääntä tai sanoja ei kuulu. Teos käsittelee kommunikaatiota videoveistoshybridin keinoin. Keskustelija voi sanoa mitä tahansa, voit jutella sen kanssa mistä vain haluat, mutta se puhuu vain sinulle. Ääni on omassa mielessäsi.
Jos installaatiossa on monta Keskustelija-veistosta, niiden luomasta tilasta tulee samaan aikaan eksklusiivinen ja inklusiivinen. Nyt veistokset keskustelevatkin keskenään, sillä ne jakavat saman äänettömän kielen. Tilasta on tullut niiden oma, ja se sulkee katsojan veistosryhmän kontaktin ulkopuolelle, ja hänestä tulee taas vain tarkkailija.
The Conversationalist speaks. It’s lips and eyes move eloquently as the conversation goes on, but there is no sound, no words. The video and sculpture hybrid focuses on communication. The Conversationalist can say whatever you want it to say, you talk about whatever you want with it, but it only speaks to you. The conversation is in your mind.
If there are many Conversationalists forming an installation, the space becomes at the same time exclusive and inclusive. The sculptures speak to each other now, since they share the same language of silence. It is now their space, which excludes the viewer, who is left outside of the group, and reverts to an observer.
